It's just plain ol' common sense. Good to see it in the Washington Times.

Well if crime is down, then we don't need any guns
Wait, where citizens are denied carrying weapons, this just in: Statistics: Violent crime spikes in Long Beach in 2012, according to the local, liberal rag.
The problem with national statistics is their smoothing local situations.
Violent crime - murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault - totaled 1,167 crimes as of May 31, an increase of 5.8 percent from last year....
Administrative Bureau Chief Braden Phillips said that while 2010 crime statistics were the lowest in 40 years, a combination of factors - economic difficulties, fewer officers on the streets and the state's release of nonviolent, nonsexual and non-gang offenders - may be contributing toward higher crime rates in the past two years.

"It's almost creating a kind of `perfect storm' situation,"'Phillips said.
Overall, crime rates discussed Tuesday were up 9.9 percent from the same period in 2011. Earlier this year, police released statistics that showed crime was 9.4 percent higher last year than 2010 levels.
The cops are good and continue to arrest fugitives and gang leaders en masse. And they're only minutes away. Please send 2A

Still another perspective, In the first quarter of 2012, Chicago pegged 120 murders. That compares to 75 during the same quarter in 2010. David Knowles of The Daily says Chicago is more lethal than U.S. posts in Afghanistan, "The streets of Chicago are officially more dangerous than a war zone: Homicide victims in the Windy City outnumber U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan this year."

144 Americans have died in Afghanistan in 2012. As of the counting, 228 Chicago residents are victims of fatal violence, as the rate for murder is spiking 35 percent higher than last year.

It behooves the voters to send Obama back home to his neighbors.

Seattle has had a jump in murders (most done with guns) this year. While national crime may be trending down, there are still hot spots, and the same tired old ideas of fixing it with more gun control keep coming up. We really need more laws to keep people from breaking the other laws we already have that they are ignoring...

I especially like where the Brady Bunch are just not existent on this issue, when it proves them wrong. The Progressive MSM just is um, mum, on this too.

    Sucks to be them.

Imangine (not in the Socialist Beetles' way) that for every one of us on this Forum, there are 10 or more Slient US Citizens who believe in the 2A.

Fudge the UN!, and Hillary's Brady Agenda with the UN.

I know I have posted this before but I have several Chicago PD family members...one in gang crimes. Horrible situation in Chicago. They all are CCW supporters.

My daughter was planning an over night shopping trip with her boyfriend July 2nd. I told her yesterday she could not go. Currently she is not speaking to me but that will be short-lived. Even though Water Tower/Michigan Ave is pretty safe, I'm just not comfortable right now. My LEO family members even say its not a safe city right now. Am I over-reacting?

It is a no brainer that increased firearm ownership has an affect on lowering crime. That is due to the balancing effect. If only the criminals have guns, then they will be used to commit gun crime and that will be percieved as an increase.

When gun ownership is allowed for the law abiding, the useage in lawful situations balances out the gun crime. Thus, the criminals may be less likely to use a gun during the commission of a crime, or be very careful and pick out crimes that may not get them shot and killed. Hence the effect of "lowering" crime. Maybe. I could be giving criminals too much credit to their intelligence.

    It sounded good anyhow.

I always thought the right-wing could outspew the left any day when it came to fear-mongering with manufactured "facts", but then I went to the Brady website and read some of their crap and it's right up there with "Obama will eat your babies and take your guns." as far as asininity goes.

Thanks for sharing your family situation. You know from whence you speak. IMO, you're over-reacting by banning your daugher from Chicago on the basis of the statistics as any increase in threat to her from violence is statistically miniscule. The statistics don't characterize Chicago as a whole. Maybe you have other reasons, but I'd say not to ban on the basis of the stats that I cited - unless you're banning her from Afghanistan, too.

Good point. I'm very protective. We have had more conversations and ground rules were established. Chicago is a great town...hate to add to its misery by allowing a few scum dictate my actions.

    Thanks for the reply.
