Give his parents some cuddos for training this kid to react like that, at 14 I wouldn't have ever been that well prepared..he must be a boyscout..

    Bravo Zulu !

I have a sneaking feeling that this young may not have beat the drop (which he really did if it went down as reported) so much as this thug saw a kid with a gun.... and he hesitated. A kid with a gun ?!?
Our young man took care of business that many adults won't or can't do for themselves or their families. He's got a LOT of healing ahead of him after such a traumatic event....... no 14 year-old should have to bear that burden..... but he did what he had to do, and he knew where daddy's tools were and used them extreemly effectively.

I'll bet the antis are astounded that he didn't use that firearm to massacre his siblings or start a forest fire

I don't think this will be the last time we see this kind of situation, sadly enough.
I agree with you Spirit, I was babysitting cousins by the time I was 12, but we grew up in a different time. Back then, even the nanny states had a little bit of common sense. For the most part that's gone now.

    Amen to that^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The kid needs a raise in his allowance, and an award from city hall, but I think he has a better chance at the former

    Very nice work.
Some clear thinking by this kid in a very stressful situation. Mom and Dad should be proud.
I'm sure we could Monday morning quarterback some mistakes he undoubtedly made, but bottom line is he gets an A+
    - Didn't open the door to a stranger.
    - Got his charges to safety.
    - Took appropriate and effective action to stop the threat.
    - Egressed the area, following a sensible plan to find a safer spot to call for help.

    Sierra Hotel/Bravo Zulu/Hooah/Ooo-rah/Well done!

Now, even though the BG is going to survive, it would be a good time to take some of Grossman's advice on afteraction items. Public recognition and private accolades are two that come to mind. Mayor (or whatever y'all have in Phoenix) ought to give the kid a medal, and put a picture of the ceremony on the front page of the paper.

And 14 definitely isn't too young to be babysitting siblings. If it is, I guess that's one more rule I broke (both as a kid and with my own kids).

Oh, and "don't f*** with the babysitter!" (from Adventures in Babysitting - NSFW/NSFKids due to dialogue, but appropriate):

LOL, maybe. The article said the BG pointed the rifle at the kid. Kid pops the BG. I think the kid has a bigger pair than most realize....
