Oopsie: she called 911, LEO came, she shot

So, the old gal called for help because an intruder was trying to get in. LEO arrives, and tries to get in... She shot him.

    Good: they aren't pressing charges.

Bad: they're keeping her only means of defense...

Glad he's ok. Sounds like she probably shouldn't have it anymore . Dispatcher should have made sure she turned up her hearing aids.

Oh man that isn't good. I'm glad the officer is okay and its cool.of them not to press charges. I would be going straight to a gun show and getting another firearm though!

And people wonder why LEO's like the caller to put up his gun when they get on scene. Sorry guys...this lady does not need a firearm.

Yes she does. Using a firearm like she did is exactly why she does. She should be just as free as any other American. She feared for her life and she took the proper steps to defend herself and shot at a perceived intruder. It wasn't like she was randomly shooting out in the street. LE should give it back and make a note for that address saying that she's called before and use caution because she's a good shot.

I'm on the fence with this one. Shooting through a wall at someone you haven't identified, AFTER calling the police. Logic says it could be a cop. Either way though, shooting at someone you can't see is not a good idea, IMO. This could have ended MUCH worse.

Irony. If any of us were that, um, well..... Would we get a break on the charges. Guess it depends on where your abode is (State, County, City).

He had gone to check on the woman after she called 911 to report hearing a possible burglar. When his efforts to contact her yielded no response, he tried to force his way in, leading her to fire the weapon.
Uh, bet he doesn't do that again. It seems obvious to me , he did not announce that he was a "police officer " well enough.... as she heard him coming thru her door...... sounds like he was being too quiet about his presence and who he was. Seems she was a good shot and knew how to use the revolver. I think she should get the gun back.

She failed to identify her target. Thats on her, nobody else. The fact that she called police to begin with might have been a clue that police would respond. But this lady didnt care to verify that. NO...she does NOT need a gun.

Every round has your name on it and its your baby in where it goes, its beyond imperative to identify your target before pulling the trigger.

    Glad LEO is doing well.

Good that Grandma defended herself. Bad that it was against the police. Good the the officer wasn't really hurt. Bad that they took her gun.

AWESOME that they're not pressing charges and putting Grandma in jail- finally some people that realize that accidents happen. Especially when there's a lot of adrenaline pumping. (Not saying that it was truly justified, just that for whatever reason she DID NOT KNOW that it was the police)

I think that she should get it back- maybe with the requirement to prove that she has taken a 'safety course'. Either way, Grandma was ready and willing to defend herself- and that is definitely a good thing.
