"Nobody expects to live past 21 here."

Great article about what is happening in Chicago.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...ders-soar.html

"This is a block-to-block war here, a different dynasty on every street," said a dreadlocked young man heavily inked in gang tattoos who calls himself "Killer".

"All the black brothers just want to get rich, but we got no jobs and no hope. We want the violence to stop but you ain't safe if you ain't got your pistol with you. Too many friends, too many men are being killed. We don't even cry at funerals no -more. Nobody expects to live past 21 here."

Take away law-abiding citizens' guns and the crime rate will go way down ... oh, wait, they already did that. Well, then take Rahm's advice: DUCK!!

There are really two areas in Chitown that are deadly, south and west... they just killin' each other... allatime... It's sad. No jobs, no hope, only chance for a buck is drugs... only chance for "love" is in a gang... most of 'em DO have guns... to protect themselves... but it's futile... they get back shot as often as anything else...

It's really just a sad, sad shame... darn few find the motivation to get up and get out... and some of those that do, get shot on their way "out."
    It could be worse.

    Citizens with rights and responsibilities,
Who vote into power representatives who take away their rights,
Who vote into power representatives who criminalize their ability to defend themselves,
Who then act surprised when only criminals have effective means of "defense,"
And who act powerless to change things,
Forgetting the reps in the legislature can be voted OUT and legislation CHANGED.

It's kinda hard to feel bad for the people of Chicago who keep getting exactly what they vote for. I do, on the other hand, feel real sorry for the rest of IL, who have to live under the rule of the idiots in one city. We have the same problem in OR and WA (and plenty of other states), though I'll take Portland and Seattle over Chicago any day...

Well if I was going to pluck something out of the article it would be:

"For the upsurge in gang killings has followed a decision by the city's mayor Rahm Emanuel and police chief Garry McCarthy, both new in the job last year, to dismantle specialist anti-gang units and instead switch more officers to the beat."

The citizens deserve better. Anyone else recall someone twisting the rules to elect this noob...

More beat cops isn't necessarily a bad thing. What's an "anti-gang unit"? Sounds like a bunch of doughnut munchers sitting around an office downtown.

Granted it's not a nice place to live, most of Chicago still isn't as bad as everyone assumes. Most of the stories on the news are from the gang territories, which only make up a small percent of the 2.7 million population. So the media is getting it's information from gang members named "killer" now?

Chicago's anti gang unit is some very experienced guys, on the street...tryin to do the best they can...

But Chicago, like many other cities, is on the verge of bankruptcy... they already sold their parking meters to the saudis (really) to cover a shortfall... they already charge joe citizen (of the city) > $50 to park on the street in his own neighborhood... there are few revenue streams left to tap.. unless they decide to issue permits to carry... at say, $1k a pop... and even that ain't likely.

Hey don't blame Rahm. He is just implementing hussein obama's ideals. It is very sad that so many have to die because of flawed idiology. Seems like someone might want to look for "hope and change" from a different set of politicians, because the ones they have ain't getting it done.
