So what if they died protecting a handicaped freind or a random stranger?

Sure the media does create and hype up stories for reaction, look at the story of Jessica Lynch vs what really happened. But your initial point is not the same as what you changed it to in retaliation of my comment.
You guys need to try to be on the same page. And be smart about this thread. The majority of gun owners are not very bright. Probably their only purpose to own a gun is to have that thrill to shoot and kill. That's what guns are for period. I can sense things pretty good. I would have been out that theater in a flash. It's every man or woman for themselves. It's always been that way, and it always will be that way.

I think Tod Beemer set the example on 9/11. Since then everyone I know who flies says that if someone starts threatening the airplane they (the passengers) will do everything necessary to take down the would-be hijacker. The days of sitting passively and doing what the hijackers say is long gone. We have since seen many examples of the airplane passengers mobbing and taking down someone who is acting crazy or threatening the airplane.

So too, I think we will see a sea-change in people's behavior when an active shooter starts committing mass murder. Today the programmed response is to run away. I think that fleeing behavior will change to rushing the active shooter, as taking down the shooter is the only way to limit the carnage.
