Stumbled upon this today. Not sure what to make of it, but it seems pretty strange that the NWS is purchasing so much ammo. First the IRS and now the NWS?

The bid shows that the purchases are to be delivered to several different locations. Does the NWS have its own armed guards or enforcement division (enforcement of what?). Or is this an attempt to keep purchases under the radar?
But look at how many targets they are buying! That means someone is practicing, we had better keep an eye on them!
NWS facilities are federal facilities and like most federal facilities since 9/11 have armed security. They have to train and qualify just like commercial armed security guards and cops everywhere else.
Is this tinfoil week? Always good to be aware....another thing to be (fill in the blank)

Oh, I though TNMike got another new job!
I know it will come up sooner or later so I will just say now that yes the national institutes of health have a police department so sooner or later they will be looking to buy mass quantities of ammo too.

I noticed they were getting 500 targets for 16,000 rounds which means a hit rate of 32 rounds a target, at maximum? So I guess we can assume a Weatherman can qualify using only 32 rounds?
I wish I was that good! :yup:
I'm betting the weathermen are arming up, as they are sick of people blaming the weather on them.
Here is a quick list from Wikipedia of all of the federal law enforcement agencies we can expect to be buying "mass quantities of ammunition" during any budget cycle.

Not all training is done internally. Sometimes people get to go to Gunsight, Blackwater, (or whatever they call it now) and other commercial schools. When they go they take agency ammo with them.
Maybe they're planning to put dry ice into the hollow tip and seed the clouds to induce rain.

Honestly, one of the more disturbing things I've seen was when I once met with DHEC employees (South Carolina's state version of the EPA), and they are decked out in tacticool battle dress, complete with AR's, vests, helmets, etc.. Really? Enforcing environmental law with SWAT gear?
Maybe the weathermen are getting threats for ALWAYS getting the forecast wrong, and they want to protect themselves...
And lets not forget what happened when the Department of Agriculture ordered that 300-900 cases of twelve gauge shotgun ammo five years ago!
