Part of the problem of false perception is that citizens just aren't being completely informed. The local headlines will tell you how much police & fire got cut, but they usually will not tell you that the public works department or child services or whatever received far deeper cuts and have been operating with less manpower for far longer. Trust me when I say that police & fire Unions carry a lot of weight and they know how to play the "public safety" card to a tee.

But they did imobilize him. Probably for longer than many might like but they certainly did imobilize him.
And yes, they did know him and his history. Pretty safe bet they know something about him we don't. How many officers did it take to subdue him last time he got locked up? How many people has he put in the hospital? How many people has he tried to kill?
They can probably answer those questions.

It was an ugly situation and hopefully there will be some good to come out of it. There is a part of me that feels for this man even though he was wrong. To be cornered and frustrated it is only natural to want and fight back. If he was so bad he would have hurt the clerk but he didn’t. I think if someone took the time to talk him down instead of being hostile things might have been different
