Employees get firearm training after multiple robberies
    [Video]

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) The owner of Cary Street Mini Mart, located at the corner of Randolph Street and West Cary Street, says hes had enough. Hes had two robberies in three and a half years.

The latest one occurred Sunday, around 8:30 p.m., when an unarmed man wearing a paper bag over his head demanded money from the store clerk.

We got to put a stop to it, Elias Haddad, store owner, said.

Haddad is taking matters into his own hands and having his two employees trained to fire a gun.

We have that right to carry guns so, I want them to use it, Haddad said.

The phrase is Its better to have and not need it, than to need it and not have it, said instructor, James Reynolds. He runs Proactive Shooters, LLC in Richmond.

I'm just one root in a grassroots organization. No one should assume that I speak for the VCDL.

I am neither an attorney-at-law nor I do play one on television or on the internet. No one should assumes my opinion is legal advice.

Informed, responsible citizenship. It's about bloody time.

More businesses should take note. Hopefully it'll sweep through the country like a brush fire.

Kudos to the owner and staff for taking the responsible steps. Though, he should add Unarmed / Bagged Head Situations 101 to his training regimen ...

Pretty cool. But I hope they all weigh and value the decission to defend their store with deadly force. Just because you have the gun and have trained shooting it doesn't mean your ready to use it.

Yup. The responsibility entails knowledge and appreciation of the statutes, the realities and legal ramifications of the use of force, and competency with tools and techniques in the application of force. I'm hoping their instruction and training is decently rich in addressing the whole enchilada.

Oh, I don't know. I think the general LE feeling toward BGs shot robbing a Quickie Mart is "Too bad."
