I was thinking the same thing.

There are a couple of lessons here though:

1.) The victim was well behind the action/reaction curve and still successfully defended himself. I don't know how many times I've heard an anti claiming that a gun is useless for self defense in the event of an unexpected assault.
2.) It's unlikely the outcome would have been as good if the employee had been carrying in condition 3 (or condition 2 with a SAO for that matter).
