Local QuickStop Gas Station Robbery Thwarted

    Across the street from where I work - as told to me by Owner\Manager;

Around 9 PM last night (9/28/06) Owner and his wife behind counter noticed a couple guys walking fast toward front door - Wham! Tried to burst thru the door - didn't know doors opened "out" and just made a lot of noise.
This got the Owners attention - he looked up at the door and saw the door open just a little & someone stick their arm in holding a gun aimed in his general direction.
Owner went for his gun under the counter - BG shot once I think - missed owner - bullet hit wall behind and beside owner.
Owner returned fire - dunno how many shots - chased them around the corner & they got away.
Blood found on the ground outside the door of the business.
Later same night PD got em (4 total) across town in a car.
PD took blood sample at business to compare and help positive ID the BG.
Owner and his wife doing fine. Just aggravated that the PD took his gun for part of the investigation. Owner wont' get it back till everything is over.

Several months ago Owner wasn't armed. Several times I encouraged him to get something for his own good & he finally got a revolver. Good thing he did....

There should be a "free loaner weapon" program for people like this who have to surrender their weapon for an investigation.

    Florida Wins Again...

Frist...great outcome to above attempted robbery.

Second...In a self-defense situation in FL...they do not arrest you, they do not take your weapon...and the BG cannot sue you...

In cases of self I think that if it is obvious that you were not at fault, and no charges are being filed on you by the DA, whatever was on the contents of the BG should be sold in public auction and the proceeds should go towards replacing the defender's firearm.

I had a friend who engaged a BG trying to kill his neighbor- the PD took his revolver until the case was investigated. Luckily, he passed his 10 day waiting period the next morning on a 9mm he had bought; he was waiting outside for the store to open the next morning!

    You give sound advice, ArmyCop.

And it's a bonus that you gave it to someone with sense enough to take it.

Kept a bad situation from being really ugly and tragic.

This is the OBVIOUS argument to use for justifying a two gun purchase to the spouse. Too bad it won't work for me. I dunno why. Last time I tried to justify a purchase to her it was for an Alaskan Ruger in .460 and I tried to argue that we REALLY needed it for that inevitable south Florida rampaging POLAR BEAR.....in the mall parking lot.

The skunk ape might be a more realistic reason to justify it. Explain to her the danger you might face from one if you break down on Alligator Alley.
