Some time ago I opened a thread about a show on TV about real life pranks. In one I remember it showed a teenager scaring his mother by pretending he was a bad guy attempting to harm her. I mentioned how this could have gone so wrong for him had she been armed. The thing that surprised me was the amount of people who claimed that it was the responsibility of the person being attacked to 'know their target'. Instead of placing responsibility where it belonged in my opinion. On the person pulling the prank.

Wow, bad choices made by some kids having 'fun'. I dunno really what to say.... Definatly feeling bad for all the kids and their families involved in this.

If doing everything you can to masquerade as a criminal, don't be surprised if you get taken for exactly that.

Don't want to be taken for what you're doing your damnedest to appear to be? DEFINE THE RULES AHEAD OF TIME, SO THAT EVERYONE KNOWS IT IS THEATER.

Hopefully the kids will take this for what it is: invaluable life experience.

Imagine if the kid with the handgun had let the other's know he had it: "Ohhhhh, Kuwwl! Let me try it?" They'd have badgered him until it was being passed around among idiots who waved it at each other until one idiot shot someone "I didn't know it wuz loaded (whimper)".

I took at hunter's ed course at 14. So far as I'm concerned, safe gun handling should be taught in school. Was saying "high school", but now I'm thinking "8th grade". Hands on type class, including hand guns.

I learned at 6 years old,,,,,from my father. Grew up with loaded firearms in my house and the pickup. Never had the "let me try it" as we always knew what they were capable of. School WON'T teach this; it is family.

There are plenty more questions that are left unanswered by the news article. I'm glad that the sheriff and DA are taking a passive approach to this rather than trying to go out and punish somebody for what happened. The psychological effects of this event are enough punishment for anybody involved, regardless of who is to blame.
