Poverty does not cause crime. My parents were seasonal farm workers/day laborers/any-job-you-can-get most of their lives. We even had to go on welfare for a few months when my mother took sick. As kids, we all worked in the fields during the summer (I started picking cotton when I was 10). At one point, we were a family of 5 living in a 1-bedroom duplex...and making too much to rate welfare. As a family, we worked our way out of poverty.
Growing up in poverty taught me:
* Being poor sucks.
* Work harder than everyone around you.
* Live "smaller" than your income.
* Nobody owes me anything.
* If I can't buy it outright, I learn to live without it.
* Criminals are lazy. It's easier to steal it than to work for it.
I've heard and read too many accounts of immigrants coming to this country, not knowing the language, with less than $20 in their pockets, and then working their way to realizing the American Dream. No, Ladies & Gentlemen, poverty does not cause crime. The culprit is laziness and a false sense of entitlement.
I have to get off of my soapbox now. I'm scared of heights

But there be evil men under many garments... Say, some even under lab coats (WWII Nazi Germany... Working for Bayer, as an example).
