BINGHAMTON NY— An early Sunday morning shooting left one person dead outside the Days Inn on Front Street and injured two police officers.

"Around 2:15 a.m., at 65 Front St., Binghamton police responded to two separate calls — one that a male guest was harassing the hotel’s staff;
the other that a shot had been fired somewhere nearby, police said.
When officers encountered the suspect at the rear of the building, he started shooting at them, and they returned fire, police said.

Two officers sustained superficial wounds and the suspect died at the scene.

Police would not release any further details Sunday. The city is expected to have a news conference at 1 p.m. Monday with an update.
On Sunday afternoon, the back parking lot of the Days Inn had yellow police tape, more than 40 yellow chalk-based circles on the pavement and blood, including one pool about two feet in diameter.
Police tape was still up at the entrance to the small back parking lot of Binghamton High School. Two bullet casings were located at the scene, each a Winchester brand .40 caliber Smith & Wesson. The owner of the Days Inn was not available for comment.
The investigation is ongoing, police said."

A shame they still need to empty their guns every time they shoot , but at least they pick up their brass..

BINGHAMTON — The man shot and killed by police early Sunday was a 40-year-old natural gas pipeline worker from Oklahoma.Michael Eugene Spohn was shot by police after pulling out a gun and firing at a Binghamton Police sergeant, said Police Chief Joseph Zikuski.
The shooting lasted about six seconds, he said.


“The officers fired over 100 shots,” Zikuski said.

Does the "number" of rounds really make any difference? If it takes one or one hundred, that should not matter. Each scenario is different in how it goes down.

Someone shooting at Police is definitely not going to end well. They stopped the threat and if they needed to use a thousand rounds, that does not matter. We don't know if the guy was hiding and shooting, we don't know anything about the scene or situation.

If I have to use 100 rounds to stop a threat, then so be it. I will stop it.

Kinda like what happend in New York, not to bad except for all the bystanders that were shot by the police....just sayin
