I'm not sure how the news report got mixed up to say it was a handgun, but according to the police report it was actually a NAA .22 Magnum revolver. I'm not sure why she would have to dissassemble it to make it safe when it could safely be unloaded and passed around. It fired when she was trying to put it back together.
If she had been pointing at a safe backstop and nobody had been injured, this story would have been a lot better.
