The Anti's have a new ally.
And it does not bode well for us...
Story here
Commander Mark Kelly, the husband of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, is speaking out against our government's enforcement of gun laws.
I suspect his message will be "tweaked" by the anti-gun groups to illustrate a need for a return to the AWB.
Please note, Cmdr. Kelly specifically said:
“We have a political class that is afraid to have meaningful debates about our gun laws
and how they are being enforced.
(bolding and underlining my own)
That is very carefully worded to reflect the lack of enforcement, and put the onus on government itself for its failure.
The largest problem is indeed enforcement. Our gun laws are already restrictive enough. But our Government's failure to enforce them; and in fact, break them intentionally (Fast and Furious), has allowed more guns into the hands of criminals. Which in turn, get used against the law abiding citizens of this land.
But, be aware... by changing just a few words in his statement... he becomes a spokesman for "Meaningful debate about our gun laws..."
The ramifications of this are:
A heroic astronaut, who's wife was shot by a madman (with what used to be considered an assault weapon component), is speaking out against assault weapons and calling for another "thoughtful" ban.
Many cards in play here...
His wife was a staunch supporter of the 2nd amendment (IINM, she even had a permit to carry).
His wife was shot by a weapon with an extended magazine.
His wife was a congresswoman who miraculously survived the heinous attack, and in it's aftermath, even voted on the floor of the house, attended the State of the Union address, and continues to recover from the injuries she sustained.
He is a "heroic commander" of a space shuttle.
He heroically supported her during her recovery.
We will see more of him. And he will be against at least some of the things we hold dear.

There are already a bunch of bans in place, like bans on places where guns can be carried. Those bans clearly don't work, what makes them think that another one will? Then again, I am preaching to the choir here

Step one-- they should pass a law that makes murder illegal. That will stop the BG's from committing that crime.

Yep, no doubt. More legislation will fix ANYTHING! And the more, the better!
I've about decided that laws are becoming like fishing lures. They're now more interesting to the makers & users than they are to...the fish!
There are only TWO kinds of people in this world; those that describe the world as filled with two kinds of people...and those who don't.

A restrictive government law that common sense dictates, is doomed to failure. Another great idea brought to you by the champions of failed legislation and policies of failure for the last 50 yrs. You can't fix stupid!!
