Camden NJ sets new murder record

Every day I wake up glad that I bailed on NJ in '90.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.
The thugs all carry, and the people can't.
How's THAT workin' out for ya?

The city of Camden, once dubbed the 2nd most dangerous city in America,
set a grim record on Friday.
The city recorded its 59th murder, breaking the previous record of 58 in 1995.

I know what you mean,I was born & raised in Williamstown,NJ and escaped in 1973 when I was 21 years old and never looked back. Camden wasn't any better back then either.

Fresno CA had that record for several years in the 80s. Crime is now down over all 80% from its peak, But where it was localized in certain neighborhoods now the bad actors are scattered around the city. And there are no safe areas! DR

At 46.8 per 100K persons (as listed by city-data.com), Camden's murder rate's about 35% higher than Detroit's, quadruple that of East Palo Alto (CA), double that of Cincinnati or Oakland (CA), and ~8x higher than New York City or Los Angeles. Bummer for Camden.

Do we have any stats on the proportion of those murders which were done with illegally possessed
guns? There are plenty of ways to murder people. Plenty get killed by knives; a few unlucky ones
get chocked or beaten to death.

IF the high murder rate is due to gun violence (my guess is that it is, but I'm asking), that pretty
much puts the lie to the NJ approach to public safety.

Camden has laid off 160+ officers in last year or two. So roughly half the department gone.

Camden is also getting rid of their Police Department

Yeah, but at least Fresno now has a Sheriff who understands the 2A Rights of Law Abiding Citizens and will issue permits to carry. Fresno County Sheriff's Office , Fresno California
