Accidental shot fired in local movie theater
Local Corrections Officer blew it. The Old Boy Network tells me he had an XD-40. This theater has a "no guns" sign, but that has no legal force here. The comments are pretty dumb on this story, plenty of armchair quarterbacks with no knowledge and a desire to prove it. Gunshot In Sonora Movie Theater - myMotherLode.com

Glad nobody was badly injured. It's gonna be tough for this guy to live it down if he keeps his job.

While it's certainly possible for a holstered weapon to become disengaged sufficiently to hang up enough to fire, either (a) it would have to be one crappy holster to do that or (b) there's more to the story.
Bummer that someone was struck by fragments. Could have been much worse.

Well, that puts to rest the debate about the odds of an AD/ND in a movie theater and the odds of a mass killer in a theater. This year we have had one mass shooting in a theater and at least 2 ND's/AD's. So guess this give more amm for the owners of theaters to say it is safer to not allow CCP'ers in a theater.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

People, this was not an AD/ND, he was simply doing a desk pop. We all do it to relieve the pressure of work.

Don't bring a knife to a gun fight...unless it's strapped to a gun.

I am continually amused but the (eventually) reported causes & events of AD/ND episodes. "Adjusting his holster..." released the strap AND pulled the trigger? Well, I've had an ND. And I've adjusted my holster. But certainly not at the same time!

Not sure. But I AM sure that there are some rules about name calling 'round these parts.

It's a good thing this gentleman is a law enforcement officer, because we all know they are the only people trained well enough to carry firearms. (Darn-it, where IS that sarcasm font?)
As said earlier, I think this gentleman will be lucky to still have a job when this investigation is completed.

Somehow he managed to disengage the back safety strap and depress the trigger, causing the gun to shoot. A bullet went through the armrest of a nearby chair, and the bullet then ended up on the floor of the theater.
Ummmm... they left out a couple of things between "disengage safety strap" and "depress trigger", perhaps "withdraw gun from holster far enough to expose the trigger", "insert finger into trigger guard", and "apply five or more pounds force to trigger."
Initially, no one was thought to be injured. However, someone contacted the theater several hours later claiming to be struck by bullet fragments. That particular person has not yet contacted the Sonora PD.
...and their lawyer will be in touch shortly, soon as they find one on Craig's List.
Also curious is the time delay between the incident itself (Friday, Nov 16) and when the story hit the news services (Monday, 11/19). This flies in the face of today's instant communication via Twitter, et al.
