What this homeowner needs now is to upgrade to a Ruger LCR .357 magnum. Great self-defense revolver. Sweet glass-smooth trigger pull, light weight, highly accurate and deals a death blow using "personal defense" ammunition. Plus it can handle .38spl and +P loads as well as the magnum rounds. It is a good weapon for someone older or that may not be able to wield a semi-auto.
My wife has one and it's the best.

Yay Dave! I really love reading about the good guys winning, especially an older good guy because people assume they can't take care of themselves. Dave proves them wrong.

No contest between the Rohm versus just about any other gun. You win. Go for a 357 SP101 or LCR or ANYTHING else.
But versus a wagging finger and the dire pronouncement, "you shouldn't do that!"? The Rohm wins.
