Woman killed after car, motorized wheelchair bump - Toshiba
An elderly man opened fire on a woman after her car came into contact with his motorized wheelchair at a central Georgia service station
Wow..... A 73 y.o. man shoots and kills a 67 y.o. woman after her car and his 'scooter' make contact at a gas station. Witnesses clearly saw it as an accident but the old man opened fire when she exited her car....... presumably to check on him.
I SO dislike stupid.......

Seems stupid on the surface but he may have legitimate reasons to have felt she was trying to do him in.
Just because others saw it as an accident, doesn't mean these two don't have some history---
It probably was stupid, unjustified blah blah, but we need more info to know for sure.

Unless she was attacking him when she was shot ,she was no longer in her car,so even if she had bumped him and he thought she tried to run him over Any threat from the vehicle was over.
Usually there is Video Camera footage of the pump Islands so there is a pretty good chance they have the incident documented.

The threat from the vehicle was over. A threat from her might not have been over.
Clearly we are talking hypotheticals with no solid info. So for discussion sake, suppose he knew that her intent was to
dump him out of his wheelchair head first? Or backward so his head would crack on the sidewalk.
And if his being bumped by the car was indeed an accident, then yes what he did was stupid, but I bet he was really
badly shaken up by that near death experience. Can't exactly expect him to think rationally after nearly being squashed.
I think there are lots of possible angles here that need, as always, far more than a superficial investigation.

But it does bring up another interesting question. No hijack intended here, but with the ever-increasing proliferation of CCW permit holders, aren't we going to have to soon address the question - At what age & under what conditions should a concealed weapon permit be rescinded? After all, I don't let my Mom drive anymore. Not because of her mental-capacity, but rather because of her reflexes, eyesight, hearing, motor-skills, judgement & increasingly retributive disposition.

Maybe at his age, he figures the medical care in Prison will be a lot better than Obamacare/Medicare, and he doesn't have to cook nor do laundry.
Maybe, he's tired of being nearly run over in his wheel chair, has a habit of pulling out in front of cars with his wheel chair, and then gets mad when someone is slamming their brakes so they don't run over him..... and he was mad about it .
Maybe, he's cautious about it, and tired of crazy drivers like we all see every day nearly running him over.
Who knows....... not enough information on it. But, it sure doesn't sound like self-defense at this point.

Hard to know for certain, with such thin "eye-witness" reports of what was seen. But at this point it seems very likely to have been an inferred "diss/offense" (the crunch of the chair) followed by proximity that was inferred as threatening by the shooter. Whatever else can be said, I'm guessing he's about to learn the true value of the "reasonable man" standard.

Not really enough information as to what really happened but I do not consider it is a situation justifying use of deadly force. One observation though, with the usual unconscious, oblivious and distracted condition a large percentage of the people behind the wheel display and the small size of someone in a power chair I am amazed more are not run over.

At least his life sentence for murder should be a pretty short one.

Just a guess here, but I doubt the perp had a CCW permit.

I'm 100% for handicapped and older people having a gun for protection...... I believe they need it as much, if not more, than the rest of us. But, just like the rest of us, a great responsability goes with having that gun. If the story 'plays' out like it 'kinda' reads, this guy was very much in the wrong. I agree with Hop though, more info needed and we just don't know what 'really' transpired.
I AM going with the line of thinking that the woman wasn't a 'threat' and exited her car to check on the scooter-bound man she just 'bumped'...... but I certinally don't 'know' for sure either.

There is more potential truth here that we may realize. Every week, for a couple of days, I room with Neurosurgeons (Brain Surgeons) and Neurologists. What they tell me about the actual implications of Obamacare are really disturbing. There is a growing trend in our country where entire medical systems are starting to refuse to take Medicare.......
