    Another BG bites the dust!

From the 10/12/2006 edition of the New Orleans Times-Picayune:

Tuesday night's self-defense killing of an armed robber in the Marigny had residents and business owners talking Wednesday about crime, violence and fighting back.

Late Tuesday, a man police would later call a suspect in several armed robberies demanded cash from a couple at gunpoint. He picked the wrong target: As the robber jammed a gun into the woman's ribs, the man accompanying her pulled a gun and shot her attacker dead.

Police called the killing justifiable, saying the shooter had a permit for a concealed weapon and "seized the moment."

The rest of the story had nightclub and restaurant owners debating about getting CCW permits. One owner was against CCW because it would create a new set of problems. NOPD spokesperson also spoke against armed citizens and CCW suggesting resisting is how most people get hurt.

If you live, work or visit New Orleans, you'd best be packing!

Seems like an ideal result - note however the two distinct ''crocks'' referred too

One owner was against CCW because it would create a new set of problems.
Yea right - and those problems are ???? ..........................

NOPD spokesperson also spoke against armed citizens and CCW suggesting resisting is how most people get hurt.
Correction - not resisting is how most people get shot

Oh, so that's how they get hurt. Very interesting.

Why do PD's say this crap? I bet the PD would fight back if robbed.

Oh, wait..I forgot, they're PD, so they are more capable than the rest of us

Yeah, like unemployed prosecutors, and criminals without a means of support. Jails having to be closed, corrections officers having to find other work...

This really tears it. More police -- in a city where many police deserted during a disaster -- coming out and saying that we should be passive when confronted with violent attacks, and count on the police.

The question is, what do police numbskulls like this guy (some unnamed spokesman?) who say that we should not fight back with our own arms, say we should do? Wait for the police? The fact that the man in the story used his own gun and shot the couple's attacker is proof positive that the police were not there to be helping take care of this situation.

What frustrates me is that when a story reports a statement like this, there is no rebuttal to say, "What, are you kidding?! What a stupid, baseless position to take!"

I mean, when police agencies take this kind of idiotic, "leave-yourself-at-the-mercy-of-the-criminal-even-when-you-can't-hope-for-police-intervention" position, we need to call them out PUBLICLY for how STUPID it is!

There ought to be a reward fund, paid by donations from other gun owners, anyone who wishes to contribute, and a matching taxpayer-funded donation, to pay people who successfully use armed resistance to not only stop a crime, but to permanently remove a dangerous criminal from society's midst. We owe THANKS to such resourceful, brave, prepared people.

(Not only that, they may end up needing the money for legal defense.)

A Link to Jeffrey Snyder's "A Nation of Cowards"...

This link is for an excellent article written several years ago. It has been referenced here before, but it is excellently written if you have never seen it. It has some good commentary on the question of why certain LEOs might advise against resistance.
