I bought my two kids with rifles and pistols .I took the mystery out of themsnd let them go to the range with me. By age 10 my boy had his own 22 and 410 shotgun.
When he graduated from middle school my wife and I purchased m-1 grand as he really wanted one as this is when Band of Brothers had come out!He join his schools rifle team and qulified expert!This is one thing father and son liked you did together.I never pushed it on him .
Saying we value guns more than children is a straw man argument. If we really valued our children we wouldn't trap them in buildings and then put up signs inviting criminals to massacre them. "Hey you with the gun, here's a whole campus where no one can challenge you because no one but you is allowed to carry a gun"
