That is quite a story.

I read that earlier today, and something just isn't adding up...
How does a pistol discharge when someone is moving a coat? Did the cop try to grab it and get the trigger, and if so, why was the trigger uncovered allowing his finger to engage it? I'm not buying it...

It is not very informative but..., something does not pass the sniff test for me.

I do believe there is more to the story...just sayin
Fishy? Maybe.
Gun in a coat pocket? I'm guessing a holster might have helped prevent this.

That is one lucky grab, his finger miraculously indexed the trigger and he pulled it twice while fighting for the coat, there better be two gunshot holes in the pocket

must have been a glock, we all know how those just go off on their own when cops have them.
Something very wrong with this story. Not enough detail provided.
Lets see, If I hung my pistol by the trigger guard and then the coat over it!......... That happened here in CA once, except the gun emptied its magazine spinning like a pinwheel on the coat hook! DR
The story is lacking in details, BUT a cop friend related a similar incident that happened at his station.
One of the 'brethren' elected to hang his pistol on the coathook on the stall door while setting about his daily constitutional. When he went to remove it from the hook, he bobbled his grip on the gun and pushed it forward so the hook engaged the trigger and it went off. Of course the gun recoiled, and he reacted by pushing the gun forward against the recoil - so the gun fired again! Two rounds in the ceiling, a whole bunch of cops in the rest room with guns drawn, and one very, very embarrassed cop. No, I don't know what the gun was.

Good thing all those NY police officers are so highly trained and would never have an accident or put a round where they didn't intend like all of us unclean civilians would do.
