I'm not sure of the law in other places, but here in Ky, we would have just had a good laugh and told him to hurry up with our order. But, I don't eat at Denny's anyway.

While I agree with the chief's intent, does he have the authority to make Denny's "off limits"? The PD isn't exactly the military. Just a question that popped into my skull. I have issues with authorities telling me where I can or cannot eat, but not neccesarily at Dennys.

I suppose the detectives could have told the manager they were there on official business--to investigate a food complaint--and he risked being charged with interference. So bug off!

No problem....and when they(Denny's) calls 911 because they are being robbed, the cops just tell 'em, "we are at IHOP, we'll be there when we get done eating".....geez, this is getting cuckoo for cocopuffs.

Family and I ate there many, many times as we lived close by for 38 years. It's a crying shame! Wish the Belleville PD would deny service when they need it.

Knowing where Denny's is based (Spartanburg, SC), I would imagine corporate would take care of this rather quickly. Though, the police officer's should not have been treated that way to begin with.

Wow. I have eaten with my family at that particular location many times, and knew several people who worked there in the past. Guess we won't be dining at Denny's anymore. I like the waffle house better, anyway!

It's only regarding 'on-duty' cops, and I guess that's fair. I've also seen police depts put a ban on going to donut shops, due to the poor PR.

That would have waaaaay crossed the line. In fact, the concern that they might not respond to 911s as quickly shouldn't be condoned. That would also be wrong of the police.

....Am I the only one who thinks Denny's is good for not being a hypocrite? If Illinois wants their entire state to have the mindset that firearms are bad and that no law abiding citizens should have them because the world is a much better place where guns are abolished - then certainly the cops don't need them either.
