"He said Owens and an officer banged on his back window when they arrived at his house. After Ussery explained the situation, he said, they demanded he be escorted inside to retrieve the gun."

Should have kept his mouth shut and asked to see a warrant.

Hiding inside a bottle of Jim Beam Black in S. FL.
They did the same thing a few years back in my town, but the guy fought it, claiming a BB gun does not meet the definition of a "firearm" by the state's legal defintion.

    (6) “Firearm” means any weapon (including a starter gun) which will, is designed to, or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; the frame or receiver of any such weapon; any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; any destructive device; or any machine gun. The term “firearm” does not include an antique firearm unless the antique firearm is used in the commission of a crime.

He won and the ordinance has been removed. Yeah--warrant!

Talk about paranoia. Officer Barney Fife didn't help the situation. Of course the BB gun wasn't heard. A well meaning teacher must have seen it and panicked.

I see that Augusta and surrounding towns haven't changed much since I was stationed there. I quickly learned after being assigned to Ft Gordon and rented a place at the Colonial Apts , the highway I used to travel to and from work was a police feeding grounds, and more so if you displayed the post tags on your car. Post tags were issued by the post to allow personnel entry to the fort and were attached to the front and rear bumpers and signaled the world that you were an officer or enlisted by the background color of the tags. I guess there has been "Change" as promised, but not change we like and is getting worse.
