I'm going to assume that being a DA he was armed and attempted to defend himself.

Watch the difference in response. This is Texas, they'll go after the criminal, not punish all the good citizens.

Even here in Texas they can get the drop on you and if it is a hit, you may not have time to react. Sadly, if someone just wants you dead, they will pick the time and location to their advantage, and who of us isn't a tad distracted when going in to work. Sounded like (preliminary reports) two men pulled up ambushed him.

When I first heard about it my first thought was, "I sure hope this wasn't Mexican Drug Cartel related." We have been waiting for that stuff to cross the border and start up down here for quite some time, and it seems so far that they have held off on going after police and civil servants ......again, that is so far. They know we have the guns and attitude to make them the ultimate losers in a real shooting war and it would be bad for their business. They have held their "depredations" to drug dealers, and those murders get buried with the word "Cartel" never mentioned in public. Don't want to make people paranoid, after all.....

That said, I am glad that y'all did notice that no one here jumped up and immediately started blaming guns and the gun culture.

Now to wait and see what the connection is going to be with this murder.

Kaufman and Mesquite are notorious hotbeds for the ABT, if it wasn't them and there really were two assailants I will be very surprised.

That said, let's lot be too certain like many were after Judge Lefkovich's family was murdered and everyone assumed Matthew Hale was behind it (he wasn't) but it was a lone wacko. The latest reports are saying "one, possibly two assailants" in a "grey, possibly brown taurus"...

Eyewitness accounts are notoriously unreliable and unfortunately Kaufman is a small town without many CCTV cameras.
