The hand will heal, but the flat screen is KIA.

So many struggle with the notion that it's the bullet in the chamber that gets fired next.

Step one when field stripping a Glock is to make sure it is unloaded before pulling the trigger. The trigger must be pulled (on an empty chamber) in order to remove the slide.

I am always amazed by stories that say a person was shot while "cleaning" their gun! When I was a kid, I was taught that the FIRST thing you do when you pick up a gun is check to be sure it is UNLOADED! And just how can you "clean" a gun that isn't unloaded????? How do you run a patch or bore brush through the barrel if there is still a bullet in it??? It is careless idiots like this jerk who give all firearms owners a bad name with the flaming libtards who think an "unloaded" gun is dangerous and can still shoot people all by itself!!! The only thing "dangerous" about a firearm is PEOPLE with an "unloaded" brain!!! I guess it's true that you can't fix STUPID!!!!!

I'm also in the group that never can understand how stupid mistakes like this happen so often. My G27 is my EDC right now and also the only own I have that requires a trigger pull to disassemble. I usually take it off right after I get home, I always do the same thing: I unholster it, eject the magazine, eject the chambered round, give it two more racks, dry fire it, and place it down on the table with the unloaded dry fired gun next to the full magazine and the extra round. This makes it perfectly set up for when I'm going to carry it again. I insert the mag, chamber a round, eject it, top it off, reinsert it and in the holster it goes. Simple as that.

In the past, the papers would report "killed while cleaning gun" as a euphemism for gun suicide. Obviously not the case in this instance but that would account for the number of such reports us older guys remember.

I think this pretty much says it all.

You read these and wonder how it can happen. Don't we all know this stuff?

But -- I read this and it probably helps to remind me to check and double check. I did that about 3 hours ago. As usual the second check came up empty. But no harm for expending 2 ounces worth of energy.

The guy learned (hopefully) a very painful and expensive lesson.

I was amused by reading some of the comments beneath the article.
