This will be interesting to see the findings, if they are published in full detail. Depending on the department it is not uncommon for an officer to be armed during an interview. If the truth be told the only times I have ever seen or been a part of an interview that officers were not armed were those conducted inside a jail facility. In larger departments such as NYPD they may have set protocol for interviews that dictate a no firearms policy. In the departments I worked for we had no dedicated interview (interrogation) rooms, and often used office space that was available. In fact I can not think of a jurisdiction here in the south that I worked with or knew that has the policy like NYPD.

NO guns in the interview room!

I thought all interviews where video taped, so it should be quite easy to see what happened?? Am I missing something? They obviously are not going to release the tape to the public, but it should be fairly simple for the FBI to see what happened and who was at fault?

Woah, the irony in that story surpasses anything I've seen in a while. I'd have to agree with having no firearms in the room given the type of people who are usually sitting in the hot seat.

Tragic incident, will most certainly cause some rule changes. Most of the interview rooms I've been in, had rules against bringing guns into the room. Unless you're doing the interview on the side of the road somewhere, it only makes sense. It's why we don't take guns into jails or prisons. RIP Detective.

Very strange indeed. It'll be interesting to hear an explanation. If we get one.

Interesting, valued lessons to be learned in this story, but it is not a story of self defense. Closed.
