New Jersey gun laws don't curb violence in Camden

Camden County Chief of Police Scott Thomson has been an officer for two decades
and served as Camden's police chief for five years before being sworn into his new position a month ago.
He said Camden's problems go deeper than New Jersey's laws and points to the social problems of the city.

    FYI,
I grew up 7 miles south of Camden,
Bailed on NJ in '90 and never looked back.

    Wrong sub-forum. This isn't self-defense related.

Article starts out fine, but then moves on to blame Camden's problem on gun laws in Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

I guess the reporter jus couldn't stand admitting it might just have a lot to do with the people doing the shooting.

    Never have. Never will.

When they fully realize that, then some sanity might start creeping back in. Until then ... it's a free-for-all for criminals with brass.

Gun laws do not have any impact on the gangsters, and the politicians know it, they are submitted and passed as a "Look what I did" by some idiot politician. They are also put in place to make the average uninformed residents/voters feel safer.

A long long time ago, I was a truck driver for a privately owned frozen food company. I was delivering a COD order about $800-$900 order to a small Asian owned grocery store in Camden. After the Owner paid me the cash he says I'll walk you to truck till you leave, and he lifted his shirt.... yes he was smart enough to be armed.

I was just reading this article. The teenage drug dealer that they interviewed said that he "Borrowed" his guns from friends and family. I like how he worded that, as hard as it is to believe (even if his 'friends' and family were permitted to own the firearms) that they would just hand them over to a non-licensed teen, unless they too were unlicensed and gave him illegal firearms.

I was born in Camden in 1966 and lived nearby in Pennsauken until I was 6.

Used to be able to play outside as a kid, but now you don't dare venture into that neighborhood without the Marines...

Detroit allows open carry, has shall issue CPL's, no gun or magazine restrictions. And it's the most dangerous city in America. So I personally don't see any correlation. It's a socio economic issue. Not just a gun control issue.

Camden makes Mogadishu look like a Disney theme park. Civic decay taken to its inevitable conclusion.
