True indeed. It sure isn't going to be a friendly road side conversation resulting in exchanging phone numbers and marinade recipes.

As the men approached, Walker got out of the car, said he was a police officer, then fired a shot that struck Harvey, according to a news release.

"The shooting resulted from a reported road rage incident that had occurred between the drivers of the two vehicles," police said in the release.

It seems remotely possible to me that this may have been justified. Unfortunately, I think he forgot he wasn't in his
    own jurisdiction or on duty.

Two on one advancing on him after (perhaps) engaging in aggressive behavior.

We don't know what words were exchanged, what gestures were made toward him, how menacing they appeared.
There was a reason he shouted "police" and drew. I don't think he started a fight just to be able to blow someone away.
He had plenty of on duty opportunities to play that game if it was in him.

Something spooked him and scared him badly, and he probably isn't someone who easily scares or panics judging from
    his occupation.

I think the issue here is that he followed the man for some time before the incident happened. If he hadn't followed and hadn't pulled over with the other driver, the other driver would not have had the opportunity to "aggressively" walk to his vehicle, and there would've been no shooting.

I'm having a hard time understanding the circumstance. If he was following the man he shot, why did that
guy stop and walk back toward him? Neither should have stopped, but both having done so there is
still the issue of whether or not he legitimately feared for his life. He didn't start the episode. It was initiated
    by the other driver.

My hunch is he forgot he wasn't on duty in the heat of the moment. That is, on duty he would have followed
an aggressive driver. On duty he'd have been justified if they didn't back off after he ID'd himself as an officer.

It is a sad story, but I'd not categorize it as murder as that implies he went hunting. I don't believe that.

I think those other two started a problem and intended to finish it. They picked the wrong person, but unfortunately
the law may not be on his side at all. Sad. DA needs to exercise a little discretion here and bring the charges into
line with the totality of the circumstances.

The results probably would have been the same if that were to have been any of us. Maybe it would have been best, (and safer for Mr. Walker's passenger) if he would have called for help instead of exiting his vehicle.

Why would you pull over? Especially with your family in the car with you. Bad judgement from the "git go".

He should have avoided the confrontation by continuing to drive.

Of course maybe he (the off duty officer) started the whole thing in the first place.

Sounds like there could be more to the story than what was reported.
