    Good: Homeowner shoots, kills intruder

Homeowner shoots, kills intruder | News - Home

They learned several men tried to get into the home on Oak Water Drive, using the front door. One of the homeowners shot one of the home invaders. The other men left the scene, according to JSO. The homeowner called 911, and police arrived shortly after.
Happened in an area of Jacksonville that's been going 'downhill' for a few years now. Glad to see the occupants didn't fall victim to those predators.

Good ending to a bad story. Since not much deterrent in today's legal system the individual has to be responcible for his (or her) own safety as well as family.

Good for the home owner. I hope the carcass is disposed of in a hygienic fashion.

I think that average may have just gone up...... A second body found close by the crime scene possibly linked the home invasion.

In my college economics class we did a few weeks on the economics of crime. Could have been some of the best stuff I learned that year. Criminals do not fear punishment, they don't fear the death penalty or longer sentences, because all of them think they will continue to get away with committing the crimes without getting caught by the police. Two things do deter them, not getting away with the loot intact, and getting harmed during the crime. The reason banks don't get robbed that often is because of those two factors but 7/11s do. So the more publicized shooting of criminals in home invasions we have, the less people we will have that will be willing to give it a try.

Unfortunately there seems to be a different kind of criminal doing home invasions. They're either violent thrill killers, or druggies. Publicizing these crimes only leads to copy cats a lot of the time, I fear.

Good outcome, only thing better would be if he had the gun on his hip in the first place.

Update: Homeowner shoots, kills intruders | News - Home

"One of them looked like a sawed-off shotgun, the other looked like an AK-47 or similar-type of assault rifle," another witness said. "I think one of them had a pistol."
This follow-up story is pretty good and the video tells a little more than the article with interviews of several of the occupants.
