Good on the judge for upping the bond, while it was good she protected her family with a toy I would hope she gets a real gun and training in case there is a next time.

That poor burglar must have been SO traumatized. Will need therapy at the taxpayer expense for years. Just reflecting on how traumatized that poor school bus driver was reported to be, and that toy gun was smaller than a quarter.

Or, he'll vow to go better armed himself next time...and you know there'll be a next time.

That gun looks bigger than a real one. The psychology of gun presentation is interesting. Even with the orange tip, the moron bad guy still almost crapped his pants trying to get out of there.

Not sure why people are so insistent she get a real gun. John Dillinger Used a piece of wood to bluff real leos to get out of jail and another felon used a bar of soap to escape jail in 1988.

People have been getting their way with gun shaped objects for decades. Yes, of course having a real gun with bullets is good if that next step is needed. But talk to most cops, and you might find that they've fired their gun very little in their career, but have presented a gun and deescalated hundreds of situations without a shot.

You are correct that sometimes the mere presence of a gun can and does stop the threat. We do not prepare for that, we prepare for the times that is doesn't. Criminals will and do call the bluff all the time. Prepare for the worse hope for the best...

This is akin to the mentality that the "racking sound" of a shotgun will scare away the bad guys.

People forget that there's a good chance that the bad guy could take this as a challenge and use his real gun to counter.

Life or death situations are not where bluffs should be relied on.

Hey, I keep a box of pop tarts handy at home in case I need to bite one into the shape of a gun right quick.
