    Dog shot, man arrested.

A dog was shot and killed Thursday evening after a man arrived home to find the dog in his backyard.

The man, 42-year-old Christopher Cockrell, told police when he found the dog, he armed himself with a shotgun and entered his back yard.

The dog began to growl, bark and advanced toward him, he told police. Cockrell then became afraid and fired one shot, striking and killing the dog, according to police.

Police arrested Cockerell on charges of cruelty to animals and illegal use of weapon.

Cockrell is being held in the Parish Correctional on a $15,000 bond.

The owner of the dog has not been located.

Is there a link to the story (news link)? Thanks. I really do not want to place an opinion on it until I see something more.

That's what would happen here to him. They are very clear, that you better have wounds to show you were actually attacked, or torn clothes. Too many folks can shoot a dog and then claim anything, so they want some 'evidence' that an attack actually occurred.

Sounds like he got what he deserved.... Now if he was in his yard and the dog entered the yard growling and becoming aggressive towards him. I dare say he'd be sleeping in his own bed tonight.

I'm going to assume he was arrested for intentionally putting himself in a situation where he he had to shoot the dog,If he was safe inside his home he should have called Animal Control, not armed himself and then put himself into a situation where he had to shoot an "Aggressive" dog,if the dog was even being aggressive or if thats a story he made up because he came home and found the dog that has been leaving poop bombs in his yard

It mentioned the shooter was in a "Parish" Correctional. Louisiana calls them parishes rather than counties, so apparently it happened here, actually down in Lafayette. I found a link and photo to the story, much the same as described in the OP.

Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME. Our success in this will be proportional to how hard we work to make it happen.

This article reads, "the dog began to GROW." It sounds like the man had good reason to be genuinely afraid.

Sounds like another case of a guy just wanting to drop the hammer on a dog. Of course the dog was making a nuisance of himself and of course he shouldn't have been there but he was a problem that could have been solved with a call to Animal Control while shotgun boy kicked back in the house. Whether he wins or loses in court he's a dirtbag in my books.

This article reads, "the dog began to GROW." The news link I posted also said the same thing originally, that the dog began to grow. It was later corrected by the website. The man may have feared for his life, after he witnessed a dog grow before his very eyes.
