The fourteen-year-old victim reportedly had a history of thefts, according to his own mother and brother, and was seen casing Landry’s home, according to an eyewitness.
    Right, he's the victim.

I actually believe his brother who said "Oh, he was a professional thief..." HE WAS 14 YEARS OLD!

And his brother casually says he was a PROFESSIONAL THIEF! Amazing.

Apparently the dead kid's "code of honor" wasn't properly communicated to the homeowner in advance.

Maybe he should carry business cards saying he is an unarmed Professional Thief.

And before either, he'll apparently invade homes with babies and families at 2am.

Thankfully, most citizens aren't that callous or stupid. They realize their right to defend themselves and their loved ones, and they'll do what's necessary to guard against impending violence being perpetrated against them. You want to attempt to take everything someone's got? Then, you'd better be prepared to die because of that act, 'cause there are citizens that just won't tolerate your threats to them. Cope ... or not.

People need to stay out of other people's property, No excuse. I was poor and never thought of robbing and stealing. We could barley eat. I dont have sympothy for these kids who get shot. The home owner has no idea what your intentions are.

Unarmed teen shot inside homeowner's fenced yard, but not breaking into home, NOPD warrant says

2006 the law said the use of force was justifiable when preventing an offense against one's personal safety or the safety of one's property, but only if the amount of forced used was "reasonable and apparently necessary to prevent such offense." That is the big problem with Louisiana's law, you end up having to prove that the force was reasonable.

Am I the only one who believes the homeowner was not justified in using lethal force? The kid was committing, at worst, criminal trespassing when he was shot.

    Agreed.

If as reported ... A couple other articles make it painfully clear the "defensive" shot was taken from a distance, without apparent means or ability to immediately harm the residents. Under those circumstances, someone rooting around the yard or "near the car" at ~10-15yds distance, nobody's under impending dire/deadly threat.

One little detail though: the claim by the resident was that the intruder made a move for a pocket and it was feared he was going for a weapon. LE is reported as claiming this sort of thing all the time. Just a minor point the jury will need to consider. May well not change the outcome.

The teen then apparently jumped a 5-6-foot fence and headed towards the Landry residence, where Landry's pregnant wife and infant daughter were present, according to the police and the home-defender. It was 2 a.m.
In those circumstances I will assume he is not collecting for the Red Cross or any other charity and take actions necessary to stop him.
