    Proof that Helmets Save Lives!

Here's an interesting one...don't really know if it's an ARMED citizen success story...but...

Man Stops Alleged Burglar With Helmet
    Nov 28, 7:54 PM EST

PALM BAY, Fla. (AP) -- A homeowner stopped an alleged burglar by beating him into submission with a football helmet. Kevin Williams, 44, of Palm Bay spotted a man outside his window at 3:15 a.m. Monday using a screwdriver to pry at the screen door, Florida Today reported.

"I had to protect my home . . . I wasn't sure what in the world he would do, rape my wife, steal something, I didn't know," Williams said. "I got my son's helmet from the garage, went out there and hit him several times. I started from the head and worked my way down to the body."

Police arrested Michael Elliot Brown, 30, on charges of occupied burglary attempt and possession of burglary tools.

Williams said he is thinking about buying a gun for protection. He said he has lived in the same neighborhood for 17 years without any previous problems.

let's not get started on the helmet debate again...we just have to live with the two camps...on one hand we have those who prefer the quick swinging half-helmet motorcycle helmet...on the other hand we have the slower but larger and heavier hitting football helmets.
I prefer the smaller motorcycle helmets because I can keep more of them in my garage...but I would feel just as comfortable with less larger football helmets.

When all else fails and you are out of ammo... at least you can club the perp with a heavy gun.....

    ...or a helmet.

I don't prefer either...my preference is the British WWII Tommy helmet. With its brim sharpened (of course) it makes a great weapon. It places me in a distinct minority, though.

But, like raysheen, I wouldn't feel outgunned with a cycle helmet or football helmet, or a USGI WWII vintage steel pot.

If you check out the Shotgun News, the true connoisseur can get a pickelhelm replica. Great for stabbing, but not to helpful for slashing...

Did I really write all that?

    Ugh.

Haha - he was determined that's for sure

(Hint - dude - get that gun even if 17 years late!)

Blood comes off football helmets petty easy, and my school used to have white ones. Although if your coach is pissed at you and throws it into the locker room wall they can shatter, but thats a different story. I think I'd prefer an old Viking or Samurai helment, one of the ones with the big horns comin out the top.

    Der Pickelhaub

Good thing he didn't use an assault helmet. At least a football helmet has a legitimate sporting purpose. Probably try to ban those too in 2008.
