Bad Bad bad....... IMPD officer ambushed and killed this morning

At what point do we start locking them away forever? I am tired of seeing career criminals let loose to end up killing honest people... Blame overcrowding, blame lack of funds... but a bullet is cheaper than a prison cell.

New details of officer?s deadly encounter with gunman | Fox 59 News ? fox59.com

This is the second IMPD officer killed in the line of duty in the last several years.

My heart goes out to this hero and his family.

My thought, for hardcore criminals, is lethal injection. No need to spend money on locking them up.....

I did not see a final outcome for the perp. It mentions he got off 6 shots. Was that before he was shot himself or after the other officer overpowered him? I'd like to think the second half of the story has a happier ending - immediate justice to the perp. First half of the story is truly sad. My condolences to the family and friends.

I agree, but then you have to deal with ethics......no one wants to deal with that.

The ratio of crimes to repeat offenders must be very high. It seems violent criminals tend to stay violent, releasing them early is absurd. I am aware of the high cost of incarceration. Is there no way to make prisons self sufficient? Someone in this country must be wise enough to have a plan that would work.

All of the drug manufacturers ares stopping production of the drugs used. It might be bullet or back to the electric chair soon.

I am not sure how the ethics would differ from the method of killing. If you inject someone, flip the switch or pull the trigger the result is all the same. I believe they used to have dummy switches so no-one knew who actually did the deed.

Prisons used to be self sufficient in this country. Judicial Activism changed that. Once it is changed the folks who provide food clothes etc for prisons pressure/pay politicians to maintain the new status quo. Long term confinement costs big time and pressure to release inmates to reduce costs grows. This tragedy is a result sadly not the only one.

Honestly, my personal ethics would not have a problem taking the life of a convicted criminal who took the life any law abiding citizen. I swore to protect my country from enemies both foreign and domestic.... that includes the scumbags who walk the streets everyday
