BAD BAD BAD:::: "explosions" at LAX

Found this to be a very chilling story. What scares me is the apparent downplay of the severity of the incidents. To me, I would be concerned this is a test of the security and emergency measures of the airport by simulating an explosion, and evaluating response procedures. It would make perfect sense for terrosrists to do this.

I thought dry run after the first incident.

Terrorizing does not have to inflict injury to be effective. It just needs to set your opponent off balance and make him react to a whole another set of parallel actions that may have not been planned for.

It might be a dry run, or it might not.

However, if it was a dry run, it was done poorly and by a very stupid person, in that by doing this in a secure area with access to what was show, he/she burned quite a bit of capability to repeat the deployment of more potent devices. This may have been self defeating in that sense. It will also cause yet another review and 'background check theator' trying to vett out anyone who might have done it. At least at LAX. I think this is some employee who had a beef with managment or the Union Boss.

Remember, besides the World Trade Towers, LAX has also been a high value target for them. Well documented as such. Remember the Boarder Guard bust of a person of Arabic desent on entering from Canada, at Port Angeles? Explosives in the spare tire compartment meant for LAX? So any 'quack' that wants to upset people can do so by disturbing LAX operations and everyone will think Terrorist!

The actual attack would occur in the area to which the crowd was consolidated during previous incidents.

Agreed...the point of adry run is to evaluate the response and tactics used. If this is the case, it is very smart of them. Not only do they know the response level, but also capabilities and locations of personell, equipment, etc.

Could be a dry run. Could also be from a disgruntled employee or labor dispute. During the Northwest maintenance worker's strike, their people messed with airport security.

    Update

Stupid blithering idiot set them off for his amusement.

Police: Curious worker set off LAX dry ice bombs

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A baggage handler arrested after dry ice bombs exploded at Los Angeles International Airport planted the three devices out of personal curiosity, police said Wednesday.

The motive was disclosed a day after the arrest of Dicarlo Bennett, a 28-year-old employee for the aviation ground services company Servisair.

"I think we can safely say he is not a terrorist or an organized crime boss. He did this for his own amusement," said Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Michael Downing, who heads the department's counter-terrorism and special operations bureau.

Sounds like their testing the response times and measuring how many resources get pooled to the area. Bad indeed.

In the vein of the "shoe bomber", now people may be tested for CO2 emissions. I'm sure glad the "butt bomber" didn't change security theater

Everything about this so called incident wreaks of malarkey.

From what I have heard one would use dry ice, some water and a container with a lid (2 liter bottle).

Heard about this on the local radio a few days ago. The hosts also had on a couple of pilots who said that there have been several incidents lately where "men of Arabic descent" have acted strangely on board airplanes. Running to the front of the cabin real fast, staying in the bathroom for extended periods of time, etc... All three of the pilots were convinced that they were dry runs....

And no, it was not on a late night radio show that features Cletus and the UFO kidnappings.....
