    Attacked while on fishing trip

A friend and I had just finished fishing and were on our way in. We were in a bad part of town. We were met by a group of guys (about ten or so) between the age of sixteen to twenty years old. When we got to the dock I jumped out to go get the truck and back it down the ramp. All of a sudden one of the group threw a rock and hit my fishing buddy in the head. At the same time I noticed an attempt had been made to break into our van. I opened the van and
grabbed my gun,a 380 auto and yelling at them to get away. the group then made haste leaving and disappeared out of sight. We got the boat on the trailer and were on our way when we saw the group coming back. We got out on the road and stopped at the nearest fire station to have my friend checked out. He was ok. I got a ccw and now carry a 9mm. I don't take things for granted any more.

Good for you! You got away safe. Next time can you carry on the boat? That might be the way to go.

You didn't carry previously, and almost had the .380 taken with the van break-in, but are now carrying concealed (a 9mm). Good change of pace. It will certainly improve the odds next time.

Reminder: It's as simple for a perp to carry a firearm as it is a rock. It could easily have been far, far worse than just a rock tossed at the head. Had they been a bit smarter, you both might be dead. But then, you know this.

    Glad you're both okay.

    Congrats on the concealed carry!

    Glad you're safe...glad you didn't lose a gun...
Did you make a police report?

Maybe your friend might also want to get his CCW permit!

Glad to hear you are safe.

You should just chalk it up to kids being kids. Next time let them beat the crap out of you! :)

Ahhh the (lack of) parenting is great these days.

You could've been in serious trouble if they would've called the police.

Lucky for both of you no one was seriously injured, and you didn't have to fire at any of them.

    Congrats on the CC permit!

Might. Then again, not very likely. Rocks striking the head are extremely dangerous. It doesn't take much to kill, in that scenario. Stoning is a method of execution and attack, in human history. Works very well, by all accounts.

This gang of young men (boys) had already expressed intent to do such an unprovoked, potentially-deadly attack ... I believe such a response to draw a gun and stand one's ground would be eminently justified. A strike to the head was the first result; it's not unreasonable to think subsequent "shots" could also hit the head. I think it would pass muster on the reasonable man standard. "Kids will be kids?" Baloney. That gang of people would have earned every result, had they continued that attack.

I agree with CCW9MM. It is not likely that the kids would have called 911, either, after throwing a rock and hitting someone's head.

Out of curiosity what year did this occur?

Does anyone know what would have happened if he didn't have a CCW license and police witnessed this? I think I do.
