Glad it turned out OK taking on a gun in that situation the potential for disaster is high.

Yes, and by those who piled on once he changed the dynamics of the scenario.

Terrible gun handling skills demonstrated by the bad guy mitigated that potential significantly.

cool video. he grabbed and disarmed pretty much how we trained. except, his initial reaction seemed strange. anyone else notice? just the way he looked up and instantly grabbed the gun. just looked weird. eitherway, it was a good fight/flight reaction and he seemed to follow it up well instead of, "ok i grabbed the gun, heck, now what??" hah.

Hard to see in the video, but he seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He drove the poorly-wielded gun into the bad guy's body one-handed and dropped his own hand-held device into his pocket as he was driving him backward.

And the good guy even had the wherewithal to put his phone back into his coat pocket right in the middle of the take down.

If you notice he turned the barrel into the bad guys body. If he had fired a shot, he would have shot himself. As to his hanging on to his phone....IMO that was stupid. Drop it and use both hands to subdue the gunman.
