Good after bad: Detroit area carjacker shot dead by cops

Officer shoots armed carjacking suspect to death, Redford Twp. police say | The Detroit News

This scumbag shot two civilians and stole their cars. It's not far from where I live either (30 mins) and I have relatives in that area. Thankfully he was a poor shot and the cops didn't miss. It could have ended earlier if either of his victims were armed CPL's.

Sad that two people had to be shot before this guy got his ticket punched. Glad that their injuries are non life threatening. I guess you could say the perps injuries are non life threatening as well as there was no threat just a taking.

If an armed citizen had shot the "fleeing" suspect, they would have been charged with murder/manslaughter because the suspect was fleeing and wasn't a threat to the citizen.

Perhaps. In many states, though, knowledge of a forcible felony and fleeing from it essentially constitutes strong and manifest capability to do the same to someone else in order to escape justice. A shakier situation than confronting someone in the act, sure, but by no means a "done" deal in many states.

But if the person being car-jacked had been armed, when he jumped in, they could have taken action. Case closed! ;)

I read that in MI you can shoot a fleeing felon.

BOLD or it would not have happened at all if the judicial system did for law-abiding what it is there to --

put violent offenders in a place separate from society so that, except for each other, they have no
victims pool to fish in. no need to even know their names or race -- dollars to dimes they have been through
the revolving doors of justice times enough to make you or me dizzy... and they laugh

Yeah but the two victims were shot. It's not like the perp asked them to get out of their vehicles nicely and drove away.

Dont you have a link. I have not heard of any such law. As long as the BG is a threat you can defend yourself, once he is no longer a threat you can not.( state in question is MI)

As to the OP, it always amazes me that people still think they can out run and out gun the police.

    He's not a felon until the courts say he's a felony--by conviction.

    Read again.

MI law states very clearly that the threat must be imminent death, great bodily harm, or sexual assault or else lethal force may not be used. Imminent. As in it's happening right now and I need to act or die. Not "he's fleeing and might kill someone if he gets away". That's not imminent.

In MI a citizen can make a citizen's arrest on someone committing a felony. But that's a far cry from using lethal force on someone fleeing.
