Argyle, TX School District Approved Armed Teachers / Staff

A small Texas town of Argyle, pop. 3,500 school board approved arming teachers and staff in their 4 public school campuses. Argyle is north of Fort Worth, 40 miles to the northwest of Dallas.

This is exactly as it should be:

    1. Strictly voluntary, as the last person that should ever posess or even touch a gun, is someone with an "EWE" attitude that doesn't want to have anything to do with guns.

    2. Completely confidential as to who and how many at any given school.

    3. Must be a CHL holder.

    4. Additional training of 80 hours, and psych evaluation.

    5. Recertification every 2 years.

I have no problem with any of these requirements. News story link below.

Argyle ISD to allow select employees to arm themselves - Dallas News | myFOXdfw.com
Asked by a CNN reporter "What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist"?, the Marine sniper simply shrugged & replied "recoil".

Now more than ever, we are at war on our home soil ... WAKE UP & arm our troops when they are on home soil!

Sounds good but I can almost hear the screaming of the Anti Gun crowd over this.

Armed protection for our politicians is a given.

The lack of it for our children is a disgrace.

    Good for Argyle!

I'm curious what, if anything, would happen if a CHL holder didn't pass their psych evaluation. Of course, you wouldn't be eligible to be apart of the armed staff, but I wonder if they report their findings to anybody else besides the school board.

We live near that school district and you need to know that the people who live in this part of Texas are all for it.
The Anti don't stand a chance around here!
Our School District (Neighboring) is working on the same policy!

We'll be damned if we are going to let our Children be unprotected.

I wouldn't complain about 80 hours of free shooting.

Who says it'd be free? Bring your own ammo, time away from work, maybe even range fees? Class fees, certification fees, etc. I very much doubt any part of this would be free.

    My State outlawed "Gun-Free-Zones".

Also, Me & the wife pay a little extra (transportation) so our grand-daughters all attend "Armed Schools".
The little sign that states, "Armed Personnel on Premises" will probably be enough to cause the psychos to move to a school where parents are not as involved with their children's safety.

^ And that message should be emblazoned on the minds of each and every child and parent who goes to such schools. Nice to know those to whom you're entrusting the lives of your children are no longer criminalized for actually being capable of and prepared to defend their very lives.

Yeah, I can't imagine many of the anti-gunner liberty hating folk to appreciate that stance. I mean, willing to protect the lives of children to the death if need be. O! the horror!

I would imagine it is going to be over dealing with active shooter scenarios, keeping the kids as safe as possible, and probably retention techniques for the teachers. When you have 20/30 kids vs one teacher, keeping control of ones gun at all times is a must. Don't know who is going to foot the bill for this school district, but I certainly like the idea.

Texas passed an additional certification for CHL instructors last year specifically for school settings. Although they still haven't developed a program for the instructors or implemented it yet. There wasn't any funding allowed, just the bill passed.

They also passed some sort of school "marshall" bill, but that individual would not be allowed to carry all the time. The gun would be locked up, and only accessible after the iincident starts at the school. Right now there are several options for arming teachers in Texas, just not many school districts have decided to do it.

Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Well, something has to be done.

We have tried just about all except this and nothing seems to work to deter a school shooter. "No Guns" signs have failed. Hardening the perimeter has failed. Duck & cover has failed. Just about every thing has failed.

I guess in desperation to stop shootings in schools, they are going to actually do this. It will be interesting to see and to know if indeed it does deter someone who has every intention of shooting people at school.

Most of the anti crowd just cannot grasp the concept of an unarmed place targeted by an armed assailant being the easiest. Absolutely no resistance to their deed at all and they can wound and kill as long as they want until the Cavalry arrives. How many times at these shootings has that happened? Probably all of them.

No armed nutcase goes to a place where there may be a good number of armed people, even psychos know they won't have much of a chance if confronted with equal or greater force. I think that every school district in the country needs to follow the example here.

While I for the most part agree, it would make a good location for somebody who wanted to die.
