Octogenarian stops intruder.
Change the adage to: "Don't mess with PREPARED old people, they'll just kill (shoot) you. "

This is my home town and it just makes me wonder at the stupidity of bg's around here. Heck everybody I know has a gun and these guys still try this stuff. Great for the older gentleman and I hope they catch the bg soon.

Everyone needs to be prepared at all times. Age shouldn't be a factor. As long as you are still able to hold and shoot a gun you should have one - preferably on your body, or within arm's reach for sure.
Getting old was not on my list of "things to do" in the Golden Years!
Talking to each other here is good, but taking action is better.

I love a story with a happy ending. I can only hope this one get better when they find the BG in the bushes, deceased.

"One in the chest," and he ran away? What was he using, the king of mouse guns?
Regardless, kudos to the homeowner. They must fear retaliation, since they didn't mention the resident's name.

This was a successful home defense. I can't think of anything to not like. Well done to the home defender.
I don't care what the gun was, or the caliber. It worked just fine.
The goal is to stop the attack and prevent injury to the defender. Period.
The attack was stopped. The defender wasn't injured. That's a huge win.
I just hope it doesn't keep the defender awake at night thinking about it.

One of the worst fallacies that movies and TV teach is that, when shot, people tend to fall down dead. While that's certainly one possibility, it is more likely (statistically) that they will continue to function for a period of time. That time could be 2 minutes or it could be 60 years. .380 or .45, it doesn't make any difference statistically. Add in being hyped up on drugs and the probability of remaining functional after being shot increases considerably. The bottom line is: never assume the act of shooting someone, in and of itself, has stopped the threat.

G-d, Make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true and my hand faster than those who would seek to destroy me. And G-d if today is truly the day you call me home, then let me die in a pile of empty brass.
