Sheriff's deputy is almost killed with his gun

A palm beach county sheriff's deputy is almost killed whith his own sidearm by "a good kid"

Deputy shoots, kills man in suburban West Palm - wptv.com

So what I want to know is how someone with a mile long rap sheet and 30 arrests is still a good kid. I know parents think the best of thier kids but seriously?! And what was the cop supossed to do differently? He cant taze the guy his tazer was stolen.

On the actual defensive gun issue. Weapon retention. The guy got both of the weapons from a cop. The tazer and the firearm. It sounds like a scene from a movie. Thoughts on how to better apply weapon retention?

Glad the officer is ok and the bad guy cant add to his rap sheet.

Nobody can say what he could have done better or differently because nobody knows exactly what happened. But ideally you'd not get caught unawares. I'm glad the deputy is OK though.

It's a shame about the kid though. I'm sure he was working at turning his life around from his 30-some arrests...

    Vague........at best.

Maybe LE should start wearing Go Pro Head Cams......now that would look funny.

The father wishes the deputy could have handled things differently. Come on, was he supposed to let the robber shoot him so he could get his side of the story out? As said above I also know parents want to think the best of their kids, I've got kids and want to, but when someone has a rap sheet that long for the crimes listed he's not a good kid. Unfortunately I see another law suit coming out of this for the police killing a good kid.

I'm glad the deputy is ok after this incident.

This story reads a little too sensationalized to me - it sounds like they are trying to describe a movie scene. Not saying it didn't go down that way, but you can actually visualize the scene from a movie with the GG and BG rolling around on the floor with the GG finding a way to push the gun away from his head at the last second.

With a wrap sheet like the sheriff noted, the BG was clearly a problem. I just take some issue with the 'reporting' if you can call it that.

How does somebody that "don't bother nobody" end up with 30 arrests including assault on a police officer. As a parent I do my best to stand up for my children but then again my children have not been arrested at all never mind 30 times.

The reporter is an IDIOT. He starts off calling the suspect a guy.

Thirty arrests? Yeah right...he was such a good boy...always kept to himself..never bothered nobody... Yeah I'll bet he wasn't "bothering nobody" each of the 30 times he was arrested.

The deputy needs more training or he should consider finding a new line of work.

From what I can gather from the story, which is VERY little of what actually happened, IMO the LEO did a fine job. He gets to go home.

I live 5 minutes from all the shootings - You get stopped by a cop around here and you better have your hands up.

Can you imagine how dangerous a BAD kid would be? What is the line between a good kid and a bad one anyway? 31 arrests?

Seriously, the biggest mistake made was that the deputy didn't shoot sooner.

A deputy in my area recently told me that they are going to be required to wear mic and camera on their chest sometime soon.

    Now that would be something.

Anyway, it bet he was tired from that fight. I thought it was going to end with a Chief's special BUG.
