Foxnews' website has a story about an 83 yr old gentleman fighting off two attackers that were setting people on fire.
Take it this guy must of had some military experience at one time if he could round up to bg with just a cane.:congrats:

Us "old guys" bring experience to the fight.
Me, I'll use the "Young Bucks" as cannon fodder and take the old guy when going in to a "do or die" situation. One time a friend, "old guy" had to draw on two BG's. First thing he did was get down on the street and used the curb as cover/concealment.
Old age and treachery go a long way.

Properly employed a cane can be a first rate defensive tool.
I'd rather have gun, mind you, but just because you don't have one, can't reach one, aren't allowed to carry one, etc., don't gripe or despair: learn how to do the most you can with what you have.
You'll be surprised at the results.
Ayoob mentioned walking sticks and canes on Personal Defense TV some time back. He said something about the advantages of age too :-) no one looks sideways at an older gentleman with an assistive device.
Im not there yet but but when I am :twak: :urla9ub: Im going to get me one of those canes with a sword or gun inside. Hows that for a concealed weapon?
Like my dad says, "Stealth and craft will generally beat youth and vigor any day!"
My son in law built me a cane last year in his work's machine shop. It is 5/8 steel pipe with the lower 3 inches being solid. He did a great job painting the thing to make it look like woodgrain. A strap around the handle will let me put my hand thru it and not lose it when swinging it. It is a bit heavy, but plenty strong in case they have hard heads. Daughter says she feel better with this than an aluminum or wood stick. Gotta love those girls.
I have one I built just for self defense, I would not want to be on the defending end of it either.
