Homeowner Shoots Burglar, Learns Later It Was Grandson, Police Say
EAST PENNSBORO TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A homeowner awakened early Tuesday morning by a burglar confronted the intruder and shot him, according to East Pennsboro Township police in Cumberland County. The homeowner learned later that the intruder was his 18-year-old grandson, a source told News 8.
According to court documents, 18 year old Darin D'Marcus Thompson broke into his grandfather's home to steal alcohol.
Thompson is charged with burglary and criminal trespass
Investigators said the shooting happened around 2:54 a.m. at a home along the first block of Victoria Way, Camp Hill, East Pennsboro Township. Police said the grandfather approached his grandson with a handgun and told him to leave. The grandson then fled into the attached garage. Police said the grandfather heard rustling and fired a single shot hitting his grandson in the hand or arm.
The grandson ran away and checked himself into Holy Spirit Hospital.
At this point, police said the shooting was justified.
"(The homeowner) feared at that point, the burglar was hunkered down. He didn't know if he was taking a position to fire at the homeowner," said Lt. Mark Green.

He should only, by rights, feel bummed that his spawn didn't grow up properly. For that, I suppose he and his children (this little criminal's parents) have some culpability. But, Johnny decided these things and chose to be a felon, chose to threaten others. Grandpa should feel good that he himself is okay and that another criminal is going to jail ... even if that criminal is little Johnny. If he wakes up and takes this as a cheap lesson, it might well be the flame that burns some sensibility into him. I suppose that's all Grandpa can hope for.

Sad it had to happen but - blood links are no guarantee against criminal activity.
Not something tho I think anyone would like to have to go thru.

Grandpa Has To Feel Badly...
about the shooting, but hopefully this disrespectful grandson has learned a lesson...unless the 'father' matches the gunshot with an a$$ whooping...probably not much will be gained for the kid...
If he has the courage to steal from grandpa...then the sky is the limit for him...there is definitely a bullet just wainting for him in the next house...hope he has a change of heart before that...
I feel sorry for the grandfather, but not the kid...
Stay armed...stay safe!

I'm sure that his grandpa feels awful, but I hope next time Junior comes over granpa puts Junior over his knee, preferrably right after Junior's dad takes his belt to Junior.
A threat is a threat, and I know none of us really want to shoot anyone, but it would really stink to have shot a family member.

If that was my son, and he was stealing from his grandfather, he'd be begging them to keep him in jail. The last thing he'd ever want is to see dear old dad again.

I have some no-goodniks in my family, and I know people whose own children would kill them for their inheritance if they could get away with it. Just because they're a relative doesn't mean they're special to you.

Yep. I never got in trouble at school because of a healthy respect and fear of my old man. Either of my kids do this and they both know they'll get little simpathy from either side of the family.
Reminds me of a guy my wife dated years before we were involved. He robbed a convenience store and tried to run over the responding officer with his car. The officer shot him. The cop was his uncle.

The poor guy found out that his grandson was a scum bag and had to shoot him all in the same instant.
That is one messed up night for the grandfather.

One thing is this kid had better have learned... don't mess with grandpa! Grandpa may be getting old, that doesn't mean he is weak!
I am sure he feels awful, but yet he must be glad he was able to teach his offspring that he could be killed next time. Maybe he saved his grandsons life.
