2005 Darwin Award Winner Found!
Hey Y'all,
You've heard of "Dumb & Dumber".* Well this rates the superlative "Dumbest"!!!!
The following mind-boggling attempt at a crime spree in Washington State, USA appeared to be the robber's first (and last), due to his lack of a previous record of violence, and his terminally stupid choices:
1. His target was H&J Leather & Firearms. A gun shop specializing in handguns.
2. The shop was full of customers - firearms customers.
3. To enter the shop, the robber had to step around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door.
4. A uniformed officer was standing at the counter, having coffee before work. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up, and fired a few wild shots from a .22 target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, the police officer with a 9mm Glock 17, the clerk with a .50 Desert Eagle, assisted by several customers who also drew their guns, several of whom also fired, The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics.
Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons.
No one else was hurt in the exchange of fire Here we are at the beginning of March and we already may have the 2005 winner of the Darwin Award. This guy is going to be hard to beat.

A classic case of suicide by gun shop.
When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

This isn't as funny I guess (although I'm still laughing) but it makes a lot more sense.
I had thought that it seemed a bit unlikely so many people would have a clear shot. My original thought was that if I was in that store when it happened I might draw but I wouldn't fire because there'd be people in the way.
The snopes version however is still more uplifting as it shows that the customers knew proper gun handling, and weren't so negligent as the Darwin account shows.

It's unclear how many shots were fired, in part because some of the suspect's shots struck ammunition on a counter, causing the ammunition to explode. "There were slugs all over that place," Persson said.
Geez, I would hate to have been in that room when the ammunition started going off...

'Deagle' 50 in the fray too eh ... Geez, this guy really screwed up!!!
Oh well - let's have every robbery go down this way - might mean we can ''cut in'' to the genetically deprived that much faster!

I do like this guy for the award but one thing I've found out. There is nothing so stupid that can be done by a moron that can't be topped by another moron.
I'll be keeping an eye on this stuff to see who beats him out. I figure in 8 months somebody will bump this guy.
