Little Rock - A home invasion early Thursday morning has left one man dead, another in the hospital, and a third on the loose.

Police say the resident, who was shot in the stomach, appears to be a random victim.

It happened at the ChapelRidge At Stagecoach apartment complex on Stagecoach Road around 2:30 a.m. Police say two suspects kicked open an apartment door after saying they were looking for a man who the resident told them didn't live there.

At least one of the suspects was armed with a .357 revolver and opened fire. The resident, who was also armed, shot and killed one of the alleged intruders, but the other one got away.

The resident was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say right now he is not facing any charges.

(Lt. Terry Hastings, Little Rock Police Dept.) "This gentleman was in his apartment, in his own house, when these suspects kicked his door open. They were armed and began shooting at him. He simply defended himself. But the police department--we don't make that determination. That's something the prosecutor will make."

During the exchange of gunfire, a stray bullet went through another apartment, just missing the woman who lives there.

Police identified the dead suspect as 25-year-old T.C. Jeffery. Police said they have not been able to find the other assailant.

This guy was pretty lucky. The news said he was shot in the stomach with the 357.

I heard about that. Two gangbangers that thought they were immune from the law looking for a guy that used to live there.

Its a pity that one got away. Its a well known fact that these so called "invasions" are on the rise in Little Rock and thus far everyone of them involves gang bangers. There have been several shootings within the last few weeks.

That's a scary situation to be in. One more reason to always be armed.

glad the resident lived, and had the presence of mind to defend himself.

    And another one's gone,
    And another one's gone,
    Another one bites the dust.
    Hey Hey!!
Too bad the other trash heap got away.
A person is justified in the use of deadly force, if such person reasonably believes deadly force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to such person or a third person.

Good job on the part of the citizen, and it just goes to show that even at home, you better have your weapon handy!

Should always have at least one defensive gun available at all times and not all your guns locked in the safe.

On a side note, I always wonder on these stories of "Home Invasions" when the intruder comes in and immediately opens fire... how many are totally random and how many are the home owner involved in with drugs or some sort of criminal activity that may have caused him to be the target?

So often these media reports are very sketchy with details at best and often time erroneous in reporting facts correctly.

I wonder if the BG that got away will change his ways now that hes seen a fellow BG get turned into swiss cheese...

    Scared straight ?

Hardly ever happens. Instead, he'll tell his gangbanging buddies where so and so got killed and that place will be marked. The best thing the shooter can do is move.
    Right now.

It's chilling to see how quickly the BG's resorted to violence, when just looking for someone who may used to have lived there. Maybe they came to take the guy out, and when they were informed he no longer lived there, just weren't leaving without taking someone's life.

Maybe when the homeowner told them to go away they felt dissed. That's good enought reason to kill someone, isn't it?

When you are dealing with gangbangers anything is possible.

They use force to harass and intimidate and they are used to getting away with it.

    In this case they didnt.
