    Mo. Man Kills Knife-Wielding Grandson
    Published: 7/25/07, 7:05 PM EDT

AVA, Mo. (AP) - A man shot and killed his grandson Wednesday morning after the teenager began stabbing him and his wife, authorities said.

William Andrew Nation, 18, came to his sleeping grandparents' bedroom in their home about 20 miles south of Ava. He shouted that he couldn't take it anymore and then started stabbing them with a kitchen knife, said Chief Deputy Trampus Taylor of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Jerry Garrison, took a handgun he kept by the side of his bed and shot his grandson several times, killing him, authorities said.

Unfortunate that he was forced to take his grandson's life, but I do not see (given what is reported) what he could have done differently.

Can't find many words myself either - but certainly, if anyone is having at you and wife with a big knife - what choices are there?

In this case it'd seem none - die or defend but - grandson, heck .... he must have totally flipped.

    paranoid schizophrenic?
Either way it's sad the grandfather had to kill his own grandson. Didn't leave him any choice though. Hope the Grandparents will be ok.

This is the second story I've read of a Grandfather having to dispatch a Grandson. IIRC the other was a forced burglary.

Sad. And it's gonna make Thanksgiving dinner very uncomfortable as well.

Adult crime. Adult response to it. As it should be.

They're lucky the little cretin wasn't smart enough to know the gun was there and grab/use it instead.

Condolences to the grandparents, who must not be feeling so hot, right now.

    nice shoot.

probably drugs involved. even if they aren't, family doesn't necessarily mean anything by default, especially these days.

It's just a travesty. I'm 22 years old, but I hear the stories my dad tells of the way he grew up, and the hardships of the farm and my insane grandfather, I mean, some of his stories make your gut flop over. But never would he have done that. I guess it just makes you wonder whats going wrong, parents? kids? society? My condolonces to the grandparents, I hope I never am put in that situation, but I hope I would act the same. Sleeping the smokewagon a little closer tonite

    Man.

You read plenty about grandparents abused, victimized, beaten, killed by out-of-control grandkids. This is the flip-side of that. Horrible, but better the defender lives than the attacker, if one has to go.

Very sad. I agree that the grandson had drugs "pushing" him somehow in this.

No matter how justified I can only imagine how the grandfather must feel.
