Regardless of why the homeowner had thousands of dollars in a safe at his home, he was perfectly justified in doing what he did because under Texas law:
The bad guys were armed and broke into his house. There is no telling when or where the gunfight started.
The bad guys were leaving homewoners' house with "several thousand dollars". Texas deadly force stautes allow a homeowner to use deadly force to stop robbers who are stealing their property. Even if they are running away.
So regardless of what the police find, I think the county DA will No-Bill this one.
"Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined". - Patrick Henry
When I read stories like this one....I nearly always have to take something for increased blood pressure. The Pravda reporters in this country really have a way with words that ups both numbers on the ole BP machine. I agree wholeheartedly with Col. Cooper! And, hopefully, Texas has some form of Castle Doctrine to protect its citizens in this type of situation.
It is not the Bill of Privileges. It is not the Bill of Permits. It is the Bill of Rights.
People should not be afraid of the government; the government should be afraid of the people.
