Greers Ferry, AR "Store Owner Shoots Robber"

    http://www.thesuntimes.com/articles/...ews/news01.txt

my wife just went to that store this last weekend while we were at the lake. She said when she came back that the store owner gave my daughter a quarter to get a piece of candy out of the machine, and that he was a really nice man.

    Good for him.

Is the revolver in the picture the store owner's or the robber's? I know if I were the owner, I'd be packing something more serious than that!

Umm, I don't understand what you mean by a .357 mag snubbie being "not serious". It can make you seriously dead, really quick. If you mean the number of rounds, OK.

    Attempted murder charges

The police investigators have found, apparently, that the two knew each other and were having a bit of a row over an extortion scheme they were running. Few other details. Oops. Attempted murder charges have now been leveled against the store owner.

It was first reported to law enforcement Thursday that Caldwell was shot during a robbery attempt, but Detectives Kim Bettis, Alan Roberson, and Phil Burnham were told a different story during the investigation. According to a press release distributed Friday afternoon by the Cleburne County Sheriff's Department, the shooting was the result of an ongoing extortion scheme that Knighten and Caldwell had been involved in.

Caldwell was said to be in critical but stable condition in a Little Rock hospital as of noon Friday. He was shot twice, according to the sheriff's department, but is expected to live.

Look to the Wednesday edition of the Sun-Times for additional details about the events that lead to the shooting.

Glad the shootout didn't happen when I was in that store in July, on a fishing trip.
