    Randy,
To start with, I'd ask that the public not have to finance this guy's medical care and his upkeep while he spends a few years in prison (only to be released to prey on the public once again anyway).

IOW, I'd prefer he'd been killed by his would-be victim.

How do these writers get off saying this poor lady attacked this creep is beyond me. Their pro scumbag slant is so pervasive we tend to not even notice it. Suppose the writer felt like she should have been grateful to give up her hard earned money, maybe laid down and give him a little to thank him for taking it. To bad she did not know how to properly eviscerate a varmint. All for making a donation to get her a round trip to Thunder Ranch for her good citizenship

Yep, the ONLY criticism I have for this lady is that she didn't go for the throat or the carotid arteries. They're right on the side of the neck; if you're going to defend yourself against someone using a knife, make sure to slash the side of their neck! Then they won't live long enough to get to the ER (or continue to attack you, since they'll lose blood pressure to their brain so quickly).

But you can't really criticize someone much for defending themselves under duress; people simply don't think too well under pressure like that, and their coordination goes out the window.

based on other articles about this very story:

First the perp was illegal and was sent to Mexico on the Monday whenre he attacked her on Thursday... wow.

Second the victim is from NY (or NJ) and that's why she had a pocket knife and not a gun. Until further notice... assume she was indoctrinated on how "guns" are bad. Maybe it can change, but one would need to start from that POV.

Third, it was not knife that saved the perp from getting killed... it was her lack of training (or bad training) in using it in SD. But at least she had awareness down and the willingness to use force.

One of the articles reported that it was three guys... two in a vehicle and this one guy who attacked her. Why the other two did not come to "save" him we will never know. And the guy she attacked was the only one reported to be an illegal.

This kind of "reporting" by the media makes me want to puke. They often refer to the injured/deceased vermin as a "victim."

It's very hard to get sufficient penetration with a slash. Stabbing center mass has a much better chance of disrupting vital organs. A punctured lung might have put him out a lot quicker than the many lacerations.

I am also offended by the story's insinuation that she "attacked" the goblin.

Oh, I don't know about that... A slash across the abdomen spilling entrails would be pretty convincing to me. Same thing with a good slash across the neck. Now a stab and "rip across"... That'll get someone's attention! That's why all my carry blades have at least the last 1/3 of the blade serrated.

    Limerick Time

It was across a dark lot that she went
carrying most or all or her rent.
He judged her ripe for the picking
But then got a butt kicking.
To the hospital for stiches he was sent.

I can't speak from experience, but everything I've read indicates penetration of vital organs to be the choice method for fast incapacitation. A good slash with a big knife isn't going to get the penetration of a stab with a smaller knife.

A slash across the abdomen has to get through clothes, skin, fat, and muscle before the entrails can be spilled. I don't imagine that is easily accomplished with a folding pocket knife. Proper throat cutting requires getting your opponent off balance, and allowing them to fall across your statically positioned blade (IAW FM 21-150 anyway).

Now a good heavy knife or machete could mangle limbs quickly making the opponent non-mission capable. Again though, not as feasible with a pocket folder.

I married one like that. She does not "seem" like it unless you really know her but she does have some stories

Anyone who doubts the effectiveness of a slash with a knife should go to the Cold Steel website and ask to have their DVD sent out. It is truly an education.

A defense knife needs to be sharp enough to shave with at all times. Otherwise, it won't be effective. This means a plain edge. Serrated knives cannot be sharpened to a proper edge, in my opinion.

    Talking good for her

my wife works as a waitress and I hate to think how many times she has to walk out of the dark bar @ 2am with wads of cash. Luckily she has her .38 and we've talked many times about possible confrontations. Glad to have favorable gun laws in Florida on our side.

As for the folks that dont think rent can be earned in one night. Some bar tenders can bring home 400+ dollars in a night easily. So, if this girl had a roomate, thats rent. Dont be so quick to judge folks. I'm 28, and until recently lived in an apt. and money was very tight, so dont judge a girl for defending her rent money, cheer her for fighting for it and fighting bad guys.
    Cheers,

Note: Great that she won out but why would a person walk around with their rent money stored in their purse, as opposed to being kept in a secure place like ohhh say the bank (?). She potentially could have set herself and her unborn baby up to be killed over rent money (!).
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
he didn't know that she had any rent money. it would not have mattered if she did or didn't. he just wanted to take what she did have. just like any punk would.
